SO for the moment you have been waiting for.

Yesterday I decided it was enough time for me to stop looking at the dull aluminum gas door.

Here is how it looked before.

Before The Redo

So I took all day and designed my own look.

Started with the black circle.

Black Paint

Also took some special cutting to get the lettering working.

Cut Out

Took some time and custom painted the door.

First Look

Finally took it for a dry run.

Dry Run

And finally put it back on the car this morning.

Door Open

Full Install

View With Wheels

Full View

FEEDBACK always welcome.
TUTORIAL to follow.

Where do you get that color shift paint from? I haven't seen that in my hardware store. Is it a can or a mix?

It's a can of Rustoleum color shift. Found it at Autozone for like 20$

Ok, so I know everyone has been asking me what the experiment is, so here is the final product.

After seeing peoples interior accents vinyl wrapped and what not I wanted to do something similar but still be unique. I had a bit of Colorshift left in the can and since the gas door worked out so well I figured why not accent the inside of the car. But I gave this a bit of a twist.

So say I don't like how this came out......... What to do?

Well here was the experiment.... This project is using a PLASTIDIP BASE.

I wanted to be able to rip it off if I didn't like how it came out so I am using a plastidip bottom coat. I was hoping the Colorshift would take to the black base but since the plastidip is a matte finish the shift didn't take to well so I had to improvise. I started on the small driver side piece as my first test and did a lot of trial and error. After 2 days of coats it I finally nailed down the order.

So here is what is on these.

3 Coats of Black Plastidip.

1 Coat Etching Primer (Was going to use plastic primer but the can broke and I ran out of money)

1 Coat Black Enamel

3 Coats Colorshift

4 Coats of Clear Gloss Plastidip

So is the end result. It ran a bit but It came out great and I am happy with it. Just needs a bit of shine and install. Came out great.

Thoughts?

Also I am working on one last thing for this weekend but it won't be up for a few more hours.
