How To: Vinyl Roof Wrap Install (gloss black)

5 posts in this topic

Let's discuss vinyl wrapping the roof, because it's a pain in the ass to do and seems like a big job to tackle. All in all, an easy task especially with an extra set of hands.

I ordered my vinyl from MetroRestyling. For the cost of vinyl it never hurts to get a good amount so you can leave a gap on the sides to trim. I went with a 5ft x 5ft sheet of gloss black. Costs somewhere around $50-60.

The first step which is optional is to remove the weather strips on the sides of the roof. Be very careful when removing the clips or you'll break half a dozen like me and have to order new ones. b0574336eab6a330dcaeb31e544f3595.jpg4e7c89897af7e0e5c7b5c61c2bf415b1.jpg

I found the easiest way to get them off was to take a wide flathead with a piece of paper under it to prevent scratching, and push it against the side of the clip while gently pulling up. This will release the strip from the pink clip and then afterwards you can remove the clips easily. Make sure to clean the area well.6d3d8480e9404f4d41d3057b257b4474.jpg

The next step was to remove the B and C pillars, as well as the "oh shit" handles so I could pull the headliner down a bit and access the antenna. 62ceff7b462e3d57bc496468c8cb44ad.jpg

Hard to see but the last picture shows the antenna bolt. I couldn't find an easy way to remove it so I loosened it enough to lift and push the vinyl underneath.

I had two buddies help me position the vinyl, went at it for about 2-3 hours with a felt lined squeegee and a heat gun. Then trimmed the edges to lay down under the weather strips, tucked the rest into the other seals, and put the car back together. This is the finished product 618689d1e36ee2294b499a58eecf61aa.jpg

Handy guide! But I have a sunroof and a shark antenna to work around, so it may be more difficult for me.

Thanks. My first time putting together a guide, wish I had taken more pictures when I did the job. Just figured this may help someone else out. I spent like $30 just to replace the 6 clips I broke. Lmao

Is there any alternative way not to remove the antenna? Like probably do some cut outs?

Evening,

Best way would be to do a cutout, then mount a sharkfin or a wind diffuser that covers around the antenna if you wanted to do an extra mod without removing the liner. Sharkfins look nice, so do the diffusers.

Sincerely,

Sepelio
